The Paso del Norte Community Foundation (PdNCF) presents the summer learning series; Power, Purpose, Plan: Fund Development led by fundraising guru Dr. Andrea Tawney of ATawney Consulting LLC. 

Dr. Tawney brings over 20 plus years of transforming advancement teams and growing philanthropic transformational investment in the region and beyond. She will lead this dynamic series of six workshops is designed to elevate your fundraising to power status. Together, we'll dive into the fundraising cycle and uncover best practices to unlock the full potential of your nonprofit's fundraising prowess.

The PdNCF invests in nonprofit organizations by providing training and resources for nonprofit professionals to enhance their ability to navigate the complexities of and to deploy strategies for fund development. There is power when nonprofits align their purpose with a plan. Power, Purpose, Plan isn't just another workshop series; it's an immersive experience among trusted colleagues, where CEOs/Executive Directors and Executive Fund Development staff collaborate closely to gain knowledge and develop an executable fund development strategy.

The Paso del Norte Community Foundation will select 20 nonprofits to participate with notification letters sent in early April

Schedule of Events

May 16 | 8:30 - 10:30 am

Session 1: Identification

This session focuses on optimizing your organization's outreach strategy. Learn to leverage your existing team, from annual and major donors to esteemed board members, while also tapping into untapped potential and influencers. Nonprofit leaders will identify prospective supporters, gain valuable insights into the role of board members and development councils, and understand ROI. 

June 13 | 8:30 - 10:15 am

Session 2: Qualification

This session focuses on understanding your donors and prospects, identifying the ideal individuals to facilitate introductions, provide tours, and create engaging opportunities aligned with your mission. Nonprofit leaders will master the art of active listening and translating insights into meaningful stewardship practices that complement cultivation efforts. 

July 25 | 8:30 - 10:15 am

Session 3: Cultivation

This session focuses on understanding the relationship between stewardship and cultivation, ensuring each interaction holds purpose and meaning. Nonprofit leaders will delve into the realm of events and strategic planning, recognizing their potential to amplify your mission, purpose, and impact.

August 15 | 8:30 - 10:15 am

Session 4: Solicitation

This session focuses on exploring the strategic nuances of making the ask, ensuring alignment with donor expectations and avoiding surprise requests. Nonprofit leaders will learn to embrace fear as a motivator rather than a hindrance, by honing your skills through practice, crafting an ask that eloquently communicates your organization's mission, purpose, and impact, and harnessing the transformative power of storytelling. 

August 29 | 8:30 - 10:30 am

Session 5: Stewardship

This session focuses on discovering the true superpower of stewardship. Nonprofit leaders will unravel the strategic elements embedded within every stewardship initiative, as well as understand the strategies for stewardship within corporate/business contexts versus individual relationships.

Dr. Andrea Tawney

Dr. Andrea Tawney is owner and president of ATawney Consulting, LLC. As a female, Hispanic and veteran-owned business, she is proud to focus her talents and expertise on organizations that lift their communities with sustainable and collective impact. Dr. Tawney provides strategic planning for fund development growth and campaign feasibility of non-profits as well as the facilitation of board vision planning for corporate and private foundations.

In her role as Vice President for Texas Tech Health El Paso she oversees marketing and communications and fundraising. She has built a team of strong leadership that has transformed philanthropic giving and expanded the visibility of Texas Tech El Paso’s mission by growing strategic marketing, partnerships and community engagement. In 2023, she and her team announced a historic gift of $25 million to establish the first comprehensive cancer center in West Texas. Before joining Texas Tech El Paso, Dr. Tawney served as New Mexico State University Foundation’s President. Under her leadership, the foundation launched the most ambitious cash campaign in the system’s history. Within five years, her team raised more than $100 million.

In 2016, Dr. Tawney was named one of Albuquerque Business First’s 40 under Forty and a 2019 Women of Influence. In 2022, she received Diversity Journal’s Women Worth Watching in Leadership International Award and in 2023 was honored as El Paso Inc.’s Woman of Impact.Dr. Tawney is a proud Air Force veteran and earned a Ph.D. from Texas Tech University. She holds a Master of Education and a B.A.S. from Northern Arizona University. She serves on a number of regional boards and the National Advisory Council for Foundations, Inc.
