Session One: The Basics

Grant writing YOU can do it! During this session, we'll go over the fundamentals of what a grant is, how do we know if we are eligible, how do we narrow down leads, and how to leverage the talents of your team. We'll share tips to help get your organization started!

June 2nd: 11 AM

Session Two: Grant Planning 101

During this session, we will go over tips to help simplify your grant writing process in Part 1. Grant planning templates make writing easier, especially with word limits! Here we will concentrate on the rules of the road on your statement of need and project plan.

During this session, we will go over tips to help simplify your grant writing process in Part 2. Grant planning templates make writing easier, especially with word limits! Here we will concentrate on the rules of the road for project milestones and metrics.

Speakers

Kristen Hernandez-Ortega

Kristen Hernandez-Ortega is an independent consultant serving the Paso del Norte region. She received her Bachelor of Health Promotion and Master of Public Health with a Hispanic and Border Health concentration from UTEP. In 2019, she began volunteering with Moms on Board of El Paso (MOB) under the Paso del Norte Community Foundation. Since then, she has stayed on the MOB team providing grant writing services, helping raise almost $345k in grant and other funds toward the Ascarate All-Abilities Playground signature project. She enjoys being a community practitioner and applying a broader lens of health in the spaces and places where we live, work, learn, and play!

Casie Pedregon

Casie (KC) is responsible for growing the assets of the Community Foundation by cultivating partnerships with nonprofit organizations, and with current and future donors. Additionally, she spearheads El Paso Giving Day on behalf of the foundation.

A native of El Paso, Casie graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Statistics. Casie is currently enrolled in the Accelerated Masters in Business Administration program at UTEP with plans on graduating in May 2021. She is very close to her family and in her spare time, enjoys taking her dog for walks to the dog park and car rides.
