Carrying Forward a Legacy of Heart and Giving

Inspired by the life and legacy of longtime El Paso resident and their family matriarch
Sylvia Wechter, Janet and Randy Wechter have generously established a charitable fund for arts and education, causes that held a special place in Sylvia’s heart.

A graceful and elegant woman, Sylvia was deeply committed to her community, and she was incredibly generous and philanthropic across many causes, focusing on Jewish organizations taking care of the vulnerable and other institutions that sustain the Jewish community, but also education and the arts. Sylvia firmly believed that the highest form of love is charity. With love for the community and in appreciation of the core values Sylvia instilled in her children and grandchildren, Janet and Randy are committed to carrying on a legacy of giving through the Janet and Randy Wechter Fund in Honor of Sylvia Wechter.

Janet and Randy have been deeply involved in many charitable causes for several decades and will strategically and beautifully amplify their impact through this new charitable fund.

What a meaningful and inspiring legacy, indeed. Sylvia’s love will continue to be felt for generations to come because of Janet and Randy’s passion and generosity. Aaron and Sylvia spent their summers in California, yet El Paso was deeply woven into the life they built and loved together. After Aaron passed, Sylvia moved there permanently, but just as she had throughout their life together, she continued to give generously to the El Paso causes closest to her heart.

Together, they were devoted champions of the arts in all its forms. They spent countless evenings at the El Paso Symphony Orchestra and supported opera, IMPACT, Programs of Excellence, theater, and so much more. They were true collectors of beauty and culture.

Sylvia loved her life deeply and lived it with intention. In the closing words of her recent memoirs, she wrote: “Life is a gift, and I am happy to be here and will leave with a grateful heart. I hope that my descendants continue to thrive and will share our legacy.” Those words now serve as both her blessing and her charge to all of us.
