The movie, El Orto Tom, directed, written and produced by award-winning Mexican filmmaker, Rodrigo Plá, will be screened during the 71st Orizzonti competition in Venice, Italy. The Paso del Norte Film Fund is raising funds to send El Pasoan actress Julia Chavez, who stars in the film, to represent El Paso at the Venice International Film Festival in Italy.
In the film, Ms. Chavez portrays a single mother, (Elena) who struggles to maintain custody of her son, Tom (Israel Rodriguez), who suffers from behavioral difficulties and is stigmatized at school as a “problem child.”
All donations received will be used to cover flight expenses, per diem for food and other related travel expenses for Ms. Chavez.
The Paso del Norte Film Fund is a member of the Paso del Norte Community Foundation’s Community of Philanthropy. The fund supports and encourages filmmaking by awarding grants to emerging film and video artists to cover production costs, travel to film festivals and training seminars.
