Over $7,000 in scholarships awarded to empower women in math and science
The Paso del Norte Community Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of the Carl L. and Sandra E. Wright Scholarship for Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Established by native El Pasoan and UTEP graduate Carl Wright and his wife Sandra, this scholarship recognizes female undergraduates majoring in STEM fields from across the country.
The scholarship was created to support women in STEM and honors the outstanding women scientists and engineers who Mr. Wright worked alongside during his diverse engineering career.
“The scholarship review committee was pleased to receive applications from all over the country and the talent and hard work of these students is utterly amazing, “said Carl Wright, “As always, choosing just one recipient is an exceedingly difficult decision; all of the young women who applied for the scholarship are so deserving and showed vastly different strengths in their applications. Our selected recipient, Angelina Xu, is an outstanding young scientist and much deserving of the award.”
In addition to awarding Ms. Xu with the 2021 Carl L. & Sandra Wright Scholarship for Women STEM award, the selection committee was compelled to create five additional awards to include the Grant Reviewer’s Leadership Award and the Grant Reviewer’s Medical Awards.
