El Paso parks are re-opening. But there’s one park in the works that hopes to celebrate its re-grand opening – Ascarate Park.

Moms on Board and the County of El Paso are working together to make Ascarate Park a regional destination.

A collaborative effort of volunteers, city leaders, philanthropists and business partners has made the park, for people of all ages and all-abilities, a reality. Phase one is approved to break ground.

And it all started with a lack of shade.

Adrianne Moody and Leyla Zeidan took their kids to the local splash park. What they found was lots of splash but little shade and seating. They gave it some motherly attention – advocates for more shade – and worked with city leaders to improve these important amenities.

More mothers joined; fathers did, too. Grandparents soon followed. The group called MOB is now more than 8,000 families strong. It’s all about families helping families. They are now working on their bigger project yet – raising $500,000 for Phase I of the all-abilities park.

With the help of the Paso del Norte Community Foundation, Adrianne and Leyla are turning their MOMentum into a movement to improve, build and create more family-friendly amenities for El Paso families.
