The Women’s Fund of El Paso was founded in 2004 after a study entitled “El Paso Portraits: Women’s Lives, Potential and Opportunities” was completed to assess the state of women in El Paso. The study found a great disparity of income and education among women in El Paso, including 38,000 single mothers.
As a response to this study, an all-volunteer organization, the Women’s Fund was founded. This organization has able to make a measurable impact on the lives of women in the El Paso community. Signature events like, Power or the Purse, has helped raise funds to award over $300,000 in educational scholarships to UTEP, EPCC, Maternidad La Luz and other training programs in El Paso; $15,000 in leadership development scholarships; and $10,000 in giving circles for education and leadership development.
