The Melinda and Meyer Marcus family is celebrating 100 years in the El Paso Community! 100 years of contributing to El Paso through a myriad of ways: entrepreneurialism, volunteerism, philanthropy, and by raising their children, grandchildren a, great grandchildren in their beloved community.

The Marcus family established the Melinda and Meyer Marcus Family Foundation with the Paso del Norte Community Foundation in 2019 to further their investment in our region.

On August 25, 2021, the Melinda and Meyer Marcus Family Foundation presented Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso with a gift of $50,000 for the Pediatric Surgery of Excellence Fund at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center El Paso. This gift was made to honor and celebrate the incredible talent of Dr. Shawn Diamond, Plastic Surgeon and Assistant Professor at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center of El Paso. Dr. Diamond recently performed surgery on young Luca Martinez, cherished grandson of Melinda and Meyer Marcus. Luca had originally been scheduled to have his procedure in Dallas, however his mother, Mila Martinez, became concerned due to COVID-19 precautions and worried about Luca’s recovery being far from home. Mila voiced her concern to a friend, a doctor, who recommended she reach out to Dr. Diamond. After meeting Dr. Diamond and his team, Mila knew this was the best opportunity for her son.

The surgery was a resounding success due to the talent and skill of Dr. Diamond and his Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso team. Just a short time ago, a child facing the same kind of surgery would have been referred to a hospital outside of El Paso.

“It’s important that our community knows that not only do we have incredible, well-sought out specialists locally, but we have equally impressive facilities. Long gone are the days that specialty surgery has to be done away from home, thanks to persistent recruiting and years of hard work from TTUHSC El Paso and their partners,” said Luca’s mother, Mila Martinez.

The Melinda and Meyer Marcus family loves El Paso and is deeply committed to its continued growth and success. They understand how important it is to keep families together during treatment and recovery.
