Moms On Board Unveil All-Abilities Playground

On May 17th, after six years of hard work and planning, Moms on Board (MOB), a fund of the Paso del Norte Community Foundation, and the County of El Paso unveiled the newest all-abilities playground at Ascarate Park. “It’s been six years in the making and it's everything we’ve ever envisioned,” said Adrianne Moody, Co-founder of Moms on Board.

What originally started as an effort by two El Paso moms to bring more shade to public parks became a movement where thousands of moms and parents have come together to find ways to help make the community a better and safer place for their children.

“This project started as a dream with a couple of conversations with our board members”, said Moody, “We came to the Paso del Norte Community Foundation with our vision, and they were full support, 100% behind us all the way. They helped us start this journey right.”

The all-abilities playground is a testament to inclusivity to accommodate and engage individuals of all abilities and ages. Designed to cater to the diverse needs of all children, it boasts three swing sets, slides, monkey bars, wheelchair-accessible terrain, and sensory play opportunities, ensuring a fun and safe play environment for everyone. On the day of the ribbon cutting, students from Riverside Elementary School were the first ones to break in the new playground and enjoy the various amenities

The new park marks the third and largest all-abilities playground to be built and all are encouraged to enjoy the additional and inclusive space.

"This park was built by the community and it's for the community," said Mica Short, Vice President of Development for the Paso del Norte Community Foundation, “We encourage everyone to come out and use it because that’s what it’s here for.”
