Trail Blazing Progress on the Paso del Norte Trail: New Friends of the Trail Coordinator, El Paso Giving Day, and Completion of the Playa Drain Trail Segment
The Paso del Norte Trail is thrilled to introduce Iberty Treviño as the new Friends of the Trail Coordinator for the PdN Trail. In her role, Iberty is spearheading fundraising initiatives, grassroots engagement, event planning, and building our volunteer program. Since joining the team, Iberty has proven to be an invaluable asset to the Paso del Norte Trail project by growing awareness of the trail on Giving Day. “ We were deeply moved to see that with the support of the community, we were able to raise an impressive $7,415, including a generous match from Marathon Petroleum,” Iberty says. Funds will be used to enhance the PdN Trail through a series of events, expanded outreach, and the implementation of essential trail amenities.
The Paso del Norte Trail holds a special place in our community, offering alternative modes of transportation, fostering connections between neighborhoods, and promoting healthy living for the people of El Paso. With the funds raised, the PdN trail staff have exciting plans to host events on the trail that will not only physically connect our communities but also create social bonds that strengthen our shared identity. Trail amenities are a vital component of our vision, providing opportunities for El Pasoans to relax and savor the scenic beauty from our comfortable benches, seek refuge from the sun under shade during the scorching summer months, and ensuring safety by illuminating the path for trail users after dark.
Now that the weather is cooler, you can experience the beauty of the Paso del Norte Trail by visiting completed segments in El Paso’s Mission Valley and Upper Valley. In the Upper Valley, the Rio Grande Trail is 10 miles. In the Mission Valley, the Playa Drain Trail segment now 8 miles, connecting Ascarate Park to Capistrano Park. The City of El Paso completed segments near Ysleta High School this summer.
Iberty invites you to contact her via email at [email protected]! You can follow the trail on social media to receive up-to-date information of the trail’s plans at @pasodelnortetrail on Instagram and Paso del Norte Trail on Facebook.
